Our Story

When I migrated to Canada from Nigeria, one of the greatest challenges I experienced -other than the extremely cold weather- was hair care. Compared to my home country, I noticed a huge gap in skill level, cost of braiding, and availability of stylists in my new country of residence. It was difficult transitioning from being able to walk into salons without any prior appointments and emerging with stunning hairstyles in the shortest time possible. Barbing or managing old installs for months became a never-ending struggle, and I gradually lost my mojo.

Working on the sales floor in my former job, I saw a beautiful Black woman shopping one day, and my eyes were drawn to her gorgeous hairstyle. I was curious to know where she had gotten her hair done as I had made up my mind to head to wherever it was after work, on inquiry, she smiled and told me, “I just returned from Congo...”. Wow, that was an “Ahaa” moment for me even though I couldn’t make it to Congo that day…

The whole of Africa is dense with Skills and creativity and the whole world needs to know. Hair styling is an art and a trade we enjoy as a people, it’s our specialty, and ofcourse our culture. This in a nutshell birthed “Braidsculture”. Inspired, I got to work, and here we are.

Since then, we have dedicated a lot of time and resources to creating beautiful pieces and building a community of happy customers from which many has turned to friends.

Our partnerships with DHL and PostCanada have enabled us to style over a thousand women globally, including various celebrities. We aspire to become a household name in the hair care industry, expanding our online presence from Etsy and Shopify to Amazon, and other major retailers.
